Review: W Beijing
We had a great stay at the W in Beijing (not our first W) – our friend recommended it as it was the newest SPG hotel and he had good experience there, so we switched our reservation from the St Regis to the W. It did not disappoint.
The check in was ok (mostly because my broken mandarin wasn’t too good, and their english wasn’t great either). I used a suite night reward to ensure we got a suite, and though it wasn’t ready upon our arrival, they gave us access to the spa so that we can shower and change out of our travel clothes. (the change room for the spa/pool was excellent – spacious and clean and had ready supplies). Unfortunately the pool was under maintenance so we did not get to use it.
When we did get to our room at the end of our first day of sightseeing, it was definitely worth the wait. They gave us a corner suite, very large with floor to ceiling windows on both outside walls. Bathroom had a large circular Jacuzzi tub. Of course everything was modernized as per the usual W decor. The TV screen even had our names on the welcome page.
Breakfast at the W was AMAZING. I really enjoyed the way it was designed/decorated. plus the food was excellent – a good blend of asian and western food options. Plus really good ice cream (who doesn’t want that to start their day right!).
Overall, the staff were all very courteous and full of smiles. They even rush to press the elevator buttons for us (which sometimes made us feel a bit awkward!)
Location was perfect, only about 2 minute walk to the subway Jianguomen stop. easy exchange to all the main tourist attractions and shopping areas (we never took the subway beyond line 1 and 2).
The only unfortunate part is the lack of money exchange with the hotel directly – they had a exchange machine which didn’t give you a good rate and had fees.
I would definitely recommend others to stay at the W in Beijing, whether it is for business or pleasure.
